Domehenge
Hopefully, this summer will see the beginnings of Domehenge here in Cornwall.
Domehenge will be a series of weekend outdoor dome building events where dome-lovers can meet and share ideas and apply themselves to the task(s) of building more and better domes.
Imagine a setting in beautiful Cornwall, hopefully with a stream, woods and a good sea view, where we can set up our pre-existing temporary dome structures and swop ideas about domes and any other topic of common interest. I do expect musical instruments to arrive as I myself will be bringing some!
Don't forget that there will be telescopes and binoculars and good (vegetarian/vegan) food.
We will, no doubt, be examining the question of energy generation for these meets so small scale portable hydro-electricity, solar and other possibilities will be discussed and built. I'm hoping we can have a good look at Stirling engines http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_engine which are essentially External combustion engines not to be confused with the internal combustion engines that are so reliant on fossil fuels. Stirling engines can operate from a campfire or even solar heat giving mechanical energy that can be turned into electrical energy via a generator.
Domehenge is not intended to be a rave so if that's your bag, sorry!, you'll have to look elsewhere. Until we are in a position to handle the logistics of a rave event we simply cannot handle it as yet. Domehenge is not another Glastonbury either! Domehenge will be informal and small-scale but hopefully entertaining as well as educational.
Summing up, the following people are welcomed/invited:
Dome builders and those who want to learn the ways of domes [and Phi & the Golden Section http://goldennumber.net/ ] - Musicians and story tellers - Alternative/renewable energy enthusiasts - Monetary reformers, of course!! - Cooks - Astronomers, and so on.
Hopefully, when we have devised the best design suitable for deployment in areas that have suffered a disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane/typhoon/cyclone, we can make many of them and offer them to Shelterbox as an addendum to their excellent survival range. http://www.shelterbox.org/
